The Municipal Theatre

Away from the crowds that sworm here during the different performances, a dedicated visit to the main Theatre in Ferrara offers a new opportunity to discover the beauty of this 18th century building, the splendid interiors with frescoed ceilings, the old galleries overlooking the stage at about 30 m., the pit of the orchestra and the elegant halls, where once the Cardinal Governor had his private studio.
Erected in a discreter style in times of wars and social decline, this considerable building is an ideal setting for simphonic and chamber music and has the best acustic in Italy (after the tragic fire that has destroyed the Fenice Theatre in Venice).
Moreover, every year the city of Ferrara has the privilege of welcoming Maestro Claudio Abbado, twice per season, along with a prestigious choice of appointments ranging from international ballets to operas and plays.
Therefore this tour brings along a concrete possibility, also for young students, to evaluate the importance of cultural institutions in times of troubles, when arts and music can be a good way to help society to overcome its difficulties.
