This way Sthphane Mallarmé illustrated in 1891 one of the main principles of this new art tendency, that had by then pervaded Europe.
Ferrara Arte and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome are devoting a retrospective to this important movement, with more than 100 masterpieces from all over the world.
The exhibition's thematic-chronological layout re-visits almost all the themes favoured by the symbolist poetics: from great myths to works rich of mysterious and sophisticated allusions and tries to capture the unique spirit with which each cultural area interpreted it.
