I ended up in Barbados in 1993 and, since then, went there 15 times!
So I spent there some time by now… getting to know a lot about it: its roads, people, music, cooking styles… good sides and bad sides… but, above all, learning to love it as it is!
In 2003 I published my work, a thesys for the University of Ferrara, about the possibility of cultural tourism in the Caribbean and firmly believe in it: the nature is fantastic, but this is no excuse to avoid trying to understand the piece of world you’re going to visit!
Therefore my tours in BIM, as the locals nickname it, are meant to let the visitor discover not just the beautiful beaches, but the many coexisting sides of it: the historical origins, the mixing of races and people living there today, the spirit of an island where the slaves of yesterday now rule!

The island is small, but the visiting itinerary can take a good two days:

The first day we can travel along the east coast and discover some of the splendid bays hidden there:
Foul Bay, Crane Beach, Harry Smith Bay, Bottom Bay all the way up to Bathsheba, exploring the Fish Market, the Rastafarian’s fresh water Springs, eating fish or cheese-cutters in some Rum Shop and even giving it a try to surf in a calm bay where the less brave hearted can contemplate the sunset!

The second day we can go west visiting the capital city Bridgetown and the smooth Caribbean beaches:
Sandy Lane, Mullins and the rough surfer’s spots: Maycocks Bay and Duppies ending up at the impressive North Point! Along the way we can stop at the Waterfront Café in town, for a pinacolada and in Speightstown, up north, for some fishcakes, the typical snack of the street stands...
We can watch some Polo or play Golf, on some of the most famous courses, or simply join some Cricket fun crowd in th fields!
We can swim with the turtles, sail with catamarans of some friends, eat dinner at “Chicken’s Rita”, fried to perfection “bajan-style”, in a schack in the country...or simply be part of the “philosophical debate” about the two beer’s local breweries, sipping a Banks or a Carib!

We can visit my friends and indulge ourselves on a hammock on a veranda and listen to piretes stories and haunted houses...or be part of more exciting cultural events on the island: the Jazz Festival in January or the Crop Over in August; visit the “Open Houses” yearly presented by the National Trust or the many Art Galleries in the lovely area of St. Lawrence Gap.
If your spor’s side prevails we can organize a tour of all the best surfing spots of the island and organize kite or wind-surfing equipment’s rental, introducing you to the most famous champions of the island, ending up in one of the lively parties that Brian Talma throws every year!

Choices for having fun are infinite and the combination only depends, as you will soon learn, on you and the response of the island!
